The highest ranking republican in Oregon, House Speaker Karen Minnis, was close to winning her race for re-election Wednesday night.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the race with Democrat Ron Brading was still too close to call. Elections officials said they hoped to have final numbers by about 9:30

But even with a victory, Minnis said she would not seek a leadership post with the House Republican caucus, clearing the way for a house-cleaning in the GOP.

The east Multnomah County race has set records for spending in a statehouse race. Minnis has spent more than $1 million to seek re-election.

Multnomah County Elections office expects to post the next updated ballot count at 5:30pm Wednesday.
