Schrader says he's in for Ore. Congressional race
06:54 PM PST on Monday, February 25, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- State Sen. Kurt Schrader, D-Canby, is planning to run for Congress.
Schrader is hoping to replace retiring Democrat Darlene Hooley. He's the first Democrat to jump into the race.
A number of other Democrats have decided not to run, including Schrader's wife, Martha, a Clackmas County commissioner.
The district is evenly split between Democratic and Republican voters, and both parties are expected to make it a high priority in the fall.
On the Republican side, businessman Mike Erickson is already in the race, while former Salem Rep. and perennial candidate Kevin Mannix also looks likely to run.
