Ex-La Grande superintendent posts bail in sex abuse case

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The former superintendent of the La Grande School District was released from jail after someone posted bail for him.

Irv Nikolai was arrested last week following accusations he sexually abused a child at a birthday party in Hillsboro.
The 71-year-old resigned hours after he was arrested in his office. He had been serving as the interim superintendent and was scheduled to leave the job in June.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says Nikolai was released late Tuesday from the county jail in La Grande after someone in Washington County posted $100,000 bail for him. The amount is 10 percent of the $1 million bail set by a judge in Washington County.
