All they want for Christmas is a home for the holidays
01:17 PM PST on Thursday, December 20, 2007
The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) is once again looking for a Home for the Holidays for all the animals that were at the shelter at the beginning of December.
Home for the Holidays is an annual campaign designed by the Humane Society to find every animal that was in the shelter on December 1st, a permanent home by New Year’s Eve, December 31st.
This year, there were 274 animals at the Humane Society on December 1st, and as of this morning (December 20th), 174 of those dogs, cats, and rabbits had found a new home of their own.
“No one wants to spend the holidays away from friends and family, and that includes the homeless cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents and birds at the Oregon Humane Society,” said OHS Executive Director Sharon Harmon. “You’ll not only be making this a brighter holiday for a pet,” said Harmon, “but you’ll also be basking in the friendship of a new furry friend.”
During a typical December, the Oregon Humane Society finds homes for 750 aniimals. They never euthanize animals because of space limitations, so even if they aren’t adopted by the end of December, the Home for the Holidays hopefuls will remain at the shelter for as long as needed.
The Oregon Humane Society is open for adoptions Sunday through Wednesday from 10:00am to 6:30 pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 10:00am to 8:30pm.
For more information, contact the shelter by phone at (503) 285-7722, or check them out online at www.oregonhumane.org.
