Tons of Tubas tackle Sounds of the Season
11:57 AM PST on Thursday, December 13, 2007
Pioneer Courthouse Square will once again be the setting for Portland’s 17th Annual Tuba Christmas Concert this Saturday, December 15th.
What makes the concert most unique is that it’s open to anyone, not just to watch… but to actually perform. Admission to the concert is free, and all you need to play is a tuba and $5 for registration.
The Concert itself will take place at the Square from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on Saturday afternoon; however, preparations for the event will begin much earlier in the day.
Registration for those interested in participating is scheduled for the day of the concert between 9:00am – 10:00am in the cafeteria at Lincoln High School. You can register before Saturday by contacting Pioneer Courthouse Square at 503-226-1613.
Dr. John Richards, former principal tubist of the Oregon Symphony, will once again serve as conductor of Tuba Christmas in Portland, just as he has every year since the Concert’s inception in 1990.
Dr. Richards will conduct the one and only rehearsal for Saturday’s performance between 10:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, also in the cafeteria of Lincoln High School.
For more information on Tuba Christmas or other events throughout the season at Pioneer Courthouse Square, be sure to check out the Square's official website.
