Today… Monday, August 11th 2008… has officially been declared Brother’s Day in both the state of Oregon by Governor Ted Kulongoski and the city of Portland by Mayor Tom Potter.

Kurt and Rob Widmer, of Widmer Brothers Brewing fame, were the brothers behind this brotherly declaration to recognize and honor brothers throughout the city and across the state.

To kick-off the inaugural Brother’s Day holiday, Widmer Brothers has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest to raise money for the organization's mentoring program.

Beer drinkers can join the celebration by sending a personalized Brother’s Day e-card from Widmer’s Brother’s Day website. For every card sent, the Widmer Brothers will donate $1 to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
