By DREW CARNEY, kgw.com Staff

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the community to join them for their 4th annual Kid's & K-9's Safety Fair and K-9 Trials.

Watch Drew Carney take on the K-9's from the Washington County Sheriff's Office during the 07/29/08 edition of Newschannel 8 at Sunrise.

The events take place this Saturday, August 2nd from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Glencoe High School in Hillsboro (2700 NW Glencoe Road).

The Kid's & K-9's Safety Fair kicks things off from 11:00am – 1:00pm, featuring child safety prevention tips, a bicycle safety course (bring your bikes, skateboards and scooters), McGruff the Crime Dog, free bike helmets (limited supply), and child safety information.

There’s also an opportunity to help shelter dogs by bringing donations of dry dog food, treats, and gently used towels to benefit Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter.

From Noon – 3:00pm, the K-9 Trials take center stage with K-9 dog teams from all over the state participating in an agility course, search events, suspect apprehension, vehicle extraction, and handler protection.

For more information, check out the Washington County Sheriff’s Office website.
