The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is hosting a new community event this weekend where families can discover the science behind the ancient art of juggling.

Watch Drew Carney explore the Science of Juggling during the 05/12/08 edition of Newschannel 8 at Sunrise.

“Science of Juggling” is a two-day only event happening this Saturday and Sunday, May 17th & 18th. It includes shows by professional juggler and former Smithsonian artist-in-residence, Rhys Thomas, as well as on-site juggling instruction with educators from Portland's Amazama Juggling School.

"At OMSI we love to help our visitors learn more about the unexpected science that is part of our everyday world," said Mat Sinclair, Vice President of Experience and Delivery. "Science of Juggling is a fun and interactive way to learn about the complex science behind this awe inspiring act."

Rhys Thomas has wowed audiences around the world with his popular “Science Circus” program where gravity, inertia, and other scientific topics are demonstrated with the likes of bowling ball juggling and glass bowl spinning.

Thomas will present his “Science Circus” act three times both on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm in the OMSI Auditorium.

Science of Juggling is free with paid OMSI admission and free to all OMSI members. Museum hours are 9:30am to 5:30pm.

Founded in 1944, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is one of the nation's leading science museums. OMSI is located at 1945 SE Water Avenue in Southeast Portland. For general information, call (503)797-4000 or visit www.omsi.edu.
