Hair today... Gone tomorrow
02:02 PM PDT on Monday, April 14, 2008
A Portland-area Barbershop spent today (Monday, April 14th) shaving heads in an effort to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research.
The Vital Barbershop’s day-long Shave-A-Thon began early in the morning with local law enforcement officers and professional athletes among those getting their heads shaved for the cause.
Having your head shaved is NOT a requirement to support The Vital Barbershop’s efforts though. Simply stopping by the shop and making a donation of at least $30 to childhood cancer research will earn you a gift certificate for a free haircut and hot towel shave in the future.
The Vital Barbershop’s goal is to raise $10,000 for St. Baldrick’s. Their Shave-A-Thon is also a pre-cursor to an even bigger St. Baldrick’s event taking place this Sunday, April 20th at Barracuda (9 NW 2nd Avenue) in downtown Portland.
For more information on either head-shaving event, check out www.stbaldricks.org.
The Vital Barbershop is located within Bridgeport Village in Tigard, OR. You can contact the shop directly at 503-598-8656.
