Local wrestling club recognized as one of the country's best
11:07 AM PDT on Wednesday, March 12, 2008
The Peninsula Wrestling Club of Portland was started 36 years ago, by Gold Level certified coach Roy Pittman. Pittman is one of only two wrestling coaches in the state to hold that distinction, and he’s also a deserved member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame.
His dedication to the sport and local athletes over the past 3+ decades has led to his coaching more than roughly 70,000 wrestlers.
Pittman’s Peninsula Wrestling Club is a non-profit organization, whose lone fundraising event each year is the Superstars Wrestling Tournament. This year’s tournament takes place this weekend at Gresham’s Barlow High School.
Admission to the event this Saturday, March 15th, is only $3.00, and it’s not too late to register if a wrestler is interested in participating. Registration costs $16.00 and can be done online at www.trackwrestling.com. Weigh-ins will take place between 7:00am – 9:00am, with competition getting underway at 10:00am.
Coach Pittman will also host a Wrestling Camp again this summer. The NW Premier Wrestling Camp for boys & girls ages 8 to 18 will take place July 27th through August 1st, 2008 at Seaside High School on the Oregon Coast.
For questions regarding the Summer Camp or The Peninsula Wrestling Club, you can contact Coach Pittman directly at 503-314-7884, or check out the Club's website, www.peninsulawrestling.com.
