Local curling club chills out at Lloyd Center Ice Rink

12:29 PM PST on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

By DREW CARNEY, kgw.com Staff

Portland’s own curling club, the Evergreen Curling Club, is encouraging new curlers to join the fun during league action Tuesday nights at the Lloyd Center Ice Rink.

Watch Drew Carney's introduction to the Olympic sport of curling during the 02/19/08 edition of Newschannel 8 at Sunrise.

The Evergreen Curling Club was born in 2002, out of interest generated from that year’s Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Steady growth over the past 6 years now has the club at between 80 and 100 members.

The curling “season” runs from October through March, with a 2nd Novice Winter League now underway every Tuesday night at 8:30pm at Lloyd Center.

Newschannel 8 Producer Craig Edwards dropped in on a recent Evergreen Curling Club Open House. Click here to find out what Craig thought of the experience.
