Gartner’s Country Meat Market in Northeast Portland has established a tradition of providing the Portland area with the finest meat products for almost half a century.

Next year marks the 50th Anniversary of what is considered by many to be the city’s premier retail meat company.

Jack Gartner opened the family-owned and operated market in 1959. The Jefferson High School graduate had the help of his parents in the early years of the business. His father, Hans, was trained as a master sausage maker in Germany, and many of the sausage recipes Gartner’s still uses today date back to his training in the old country.

Whether you’re looking for beef or pork, bacon or sausage, marinated short ribs or even smoked turkey… you name it, Gartner’s probably has it right in the display case at the front of the shop. In fact, Gartner’s is home to one of the longest meat counters west of the Mississippi.

Store hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sundays. Gartner’s is closed on Mondays.

Located at 7450 NE Killingsworth Street, you can find more information about Gartner’s by calling the shop at 503-252-7801 or checking out their website, www.gartnersmeats.com.
