Attention Brides-to-Be: Great Deal... Even Greater Cause

11:52 AM PST on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

By DREW CARNEY, kgw.com Staff

Hundreds of local brides will find the gown of their dreams while making wishes come true for terminally ill breast cancer patients and their families this weekend thanks to the annual Brides Against Breast Cancer Portland Wedding Gown Sale.

Watch Drew Carney in a sea of roughly 6,000 Wedding Gowns during a preview of the annual Brides Against Breast Cancer Wedding Gown Sale during the 01/16/08 edition of Newschannel 8 at Sunrise.

The event is a fundraiser for the Making Memories Foundation, a locally-founded organization dedicated to granting the wishes of terminal breast cancer patients.

While some of the gowns featured at this weekend’s sale have been donated by brides who wore them for their own wedding, the majority (roughly 80%) are brand-new, never worn before gowns courtesy of the nation’s top bridal designers and retailers.

The Sale runs this Friday, January 18th through Sunday, January 20th at the Lloyd Center Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center, located at 1000 NE Multnomah Street in Northeast Portland. Doors will be open from 10:00am to 8:00pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 11:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday.

Making Memories was co-founded ten years ago by the local mother/daughter team of Fran Hansen and Anna Orr. Their story has received national coverage over the years from, among others, Oprah Winfrey, CNN, MSNBC, Martha Stewart Weddings, Time Magazine, and Modern Bride Magazine.

Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation is a recognized non-profit organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. For more information please visit their website, www.MakingMemories.org, or call 503-307-5600.
