If you have a tablet or smart phone, you can take part in NOAA's weather research by downloading a special app onto your device.
The program is a partnership between the National Severe Storms Laboratory and the University of Oklahoma. The mPING app is available on Apple and Android.
Once you download it, simply select the type of precipitation that is falling at your location and press submit. Your location and time of observation will be included in the national weather report.
I believe the app allows you to see real-time observations from across the county. Check it out at:
Your report will become part of the PING project, looking at precipitation identification near the ground.
