Much of the great plains states continues to see abnormally dry to exceptional-drought conditions. The map above shows 67 percent of the United States is seeing drought conditions. The dark shaded areas illustrate areas of most serious concern, including parts of eastern Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.
Drought has serious complications for agriculture, water supplies and recreation, costing the nation an estimated 35 billion dollars in economic loss. Outlooks call for severe drought conditions to continue into this summer across much of Texas, the plains, Rockies, the southwest, Nevada, parts of California and much of Florida. Summer improvement, meaning much needed rainfall is expected in parts of the upper midwest and the southeast.
