Work is being done to develop drones as a helpful tool in fighting wildfires. The high flying aircraft will of course be able to survey forest land in search of fire starts, but promising technology will go a lot further than simply placing a camera in the sky. Firefighters today often deploy with tablets and other online devices to communicate. However, many wildfires are located in back country, far away from cell tower service. Drones will be able to hover over so-called dead cellular areas and act as a hot spot, enabling communication on the ground between fire command headquarters and firefighters in the field.
More work needs to be done, but the work and idea of unmanned drones flying over the fire zone is very promising. Read the entire article at: money.cnn.com/2013/08/19/technology/innovation/fire-fighting-drones/
