Asteroid 2012 DA 14 is set to come very close to Earth Friday.

The 50-yard long rock is set to pass Earth at about 17,200 miles away. That's about 5,000 miles closer than most weather satellites, KGW Chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino said.

It's the closest an asteroid has come in recorded history. Scientists do not think it will hit Earth.
