Happy Holidays from those of here at Straight Talk. As we close out our first year of production, we're taking a moment to think about all of those around us who help make our community a better place to live.
For many, the holidays are a time of looking out for others, whether it's kids in need or the homeless who need a dry place to sleep and a warm meal to eat. But those needs exist all year long, even if the needs are a bit more evident during the holiday season.
So for our final broadcast of the year, we invited leaders from three of our area's largest charities - the United Way, Mercy Corps, and Hands On Portland - to talk about the need and how you can get involved in making a difference all throughout the year. We hope you'll watch and learn, and if you're motivated to lend some time, effort or money, check the links in this story.
Of course, many other groups are working to address the many needs that exist all year long, and a bit of research on the internet or with some of the charities above just might lead you to a group that you really connect with.
2010 promises to be a big year for politics, and we're looking forward to bringing you the kind of in-depth discussion about those issues that you won't find many other places.
So get out and give a little, have a great holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you again in the New Year.
