Should Oregon lawmakers dip into the rainy day fund to save the school year for districts across the state?
Governor Kulongoski says we should wait because the economy is going to get worse. He wants to save the reserves for a rainier day.
Two legislators I talk to on "Straight Talk" this week, one a democrat the other a republican aren't so sure they can wait.
Both Representative Larry Galizio, a democrat from Tigard, and Senator Bruce Starr from Hillsboro agree;they want to help prevent school districts from having to cut days from this school year.
They disagree more on the Oregon stimulus package passed this session.
The debate is feisty and informative.
We also get perspective from one of the new rockstars of our time, OSU economist, Patrick Emerson. Everyone wants to hear what economists think will happen to the economy, and when we might see a turnaround.
Oh, and don't forget Lars Larson and David Sarasohn make their debut as our weekly guest dueling commentators.
Tune in Saturday night at 7pm to get the "Straight Talk" on Oregon's economy.
I know. It's Valentine's Day. But, maybe you can plan dinner for 7:30 after "Straight Talk".
Let us hear what you think.
Thank you for watching and let's keep talking.
