Florida is playing Oklahoma for the BCS National Title in college football. It should be a great game and I'm looking forward to it. However, they really should come up with a better system.

I understand that Bowl games are tradition and they are great for football fans. I've gone to a number of Bowl games around the country over the years...as a fan and reporter and they are great fun. I remember freezing during the Liberty Bowl in 1978 in Memphis. Missouri beat LSU 20-15 and I had a fabulous time. That weekend was the first time I saw Graceland. Elvis died the year before and they hadn't started tours yet, but it was blast.

I covered the Ducks in the Poulan/Weed Eater Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1992. They lost the game to Wake Forest, but again, I had a great time. There was so much history down in Shreveport and I understand that is all part of the Bowl Experience.

However, to have a true National Champion in College Football you need some sort of playoff system. USC won the Pac-10 outright and finished 11-1. The Trojans might be the best team in the country. We don't know because they wont get the chance.

How about Texas or Penn St. ?

The N.Y. Giants lost six games last season in the NFL...but got it rolling and won the Super Bowl.

It's too bad they can't come up with a playoff system that would work. Until that time...all we can do is sit back and enjoy the Bowl games and the Holiday Season.
