Week 12: 1 week to go!
Okay---so now I’m worried! June 25th my Galloway group ran another easy 5 miles but this time I felt a sharp pain above my ankle the entire way. I tried to distract myself with my new Garmin 305 running watch. My wife, Jackie and my boys and my in laws got it for me for Father’s Day. It has so many cool features that I doubt I’ll ever figure them out.
But the pain did not go away. I’m worried enough that I called a buddy who is a physical therapist and asked for some advice. After an examination he told me I have inflammation and swelling in the tendons of the Tibialis Posterior. I had no idea what that was---so he translated. It’s the tendon that runs under the bottom of your foot and up your shin. If it’s used too much, too soon and you have flat feet (guilty!) it can get angry. When it gets angry it swells and gets painful.
I’m 8 days away from the half marathon!!!!!!!! He said to keep icing it and take ibuprofen. He also wrapped it and showed me how to do the same. And then stay off it for a couple weeks after the half marathon.
Was it wrong to delay telling him I’m planning on running the full marathon in October??!
