I went and visited the red-tails that are homesteading on a building facing Lownsdale Square. They may well be our wayward raptor cam pair.
As I came down third avenue they were soaring a good 10 stories above the road. By the time I parked and got out my scope, the female was perched atop the Portland Building Ecoroof. Several minutes later the male came in an copulated with her.
Audubon is currently partnering with the city to determine whether birds use ecoroofs---now we know that they use them as the honeymoon suite! The hawks have built several nests on various ledges on the Courthouse building.
If it is the Raptor Cam pair, this site is a heck of a lot nicer, overlooking a lovely park and just across the way from a fabulous ecoroof. Audubon will engage with the Courthouse to ensure that the hawks are properly managed.
KGW and Audubon are actively exploring options for continuing to provide a way for fans of Raptor Cam to enjoy a live webcam view of the Raptors, and we will keep you updated on developments!
