Check out the story on KGW tonight about the Barn Owl release at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro. Audubon is raising more than a dozen barn owls right now. Many of these barn owls come to us on trucks full of hay bails. Adult barn owls will often nest in among hay bails and these nests full of young owls can go unnoticed as the stacks are loaded onto trucks. Often they are not found until several days and hundreds of miles later when the trucks are unloaded. By that time the young owls are in poor condition and it is too late to reunite them with their parents. The owls featured in the story tonight have spent many weeks at our care center. For the last month they have been learning to hunt and fly in a large flight cage.
