Cool that the hummingbird has been continuing to return to periodically buzz the nest!

I spent yesterday afternoon at a House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs Oceans and Wildlife Hearing on Congressman DeFazio's bill that make it a felony to "intentionally" and "maliciously" kill a protected bird species (H.R. 2062). The proposed legislation seemed to be well received and the Congressman spoke eloquently about the need for stronger penalties in light of the 2007 Roller Pigeon Cases. For those interested in learning more about this legislation, I will post my testimony on Audubon's website when I get back from D.C. tonight Two of the folks involved in the Roller Pigeon cases actually scoped out downtown rooftops in Southern California with the intent of shooting peregrines that were nesting on downtown buildings! Can you imagine someone perched on a downtown Portland rooftop with a rifle trying to take out our red-tails?!!!

Congressman DeFazio deserves praise for his efforts to protect our birds!!!
