Sammy is a very special Beagle. While with us he has been using a treadmill in the water and seems to enjoy it to help him lose some weight. He is also blind and has adapted to it quite well. A special consultation goes with his adoption. He has done quite well with dog savvy children!

The Oregon Humane Society’s Dog of the Day is Sammy. He is a happy, vocal, and playful Beagle. A training consult is included prior to his adoption to learn about working with a blind dog.  He came to us because his past family was moving was and could not take him. He is gentle with children but they need to be old enough to be respectful of him and understand that he cannot see them, but use other senses to know where they are. This sweet boy needs to lose a few pounds and will need continued regular exercise to keep a healthy mind and body. Sammy has an allergy to wheat and will need a special diet kibble to keep him healthy. He has been 'working out' on an underwater treadmill while here and seems to enjoy it. He also likes to ride in the car. You can meet this fellow at the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland 503-285-7722. Visiting hours are 10-7 on Sunday-Wednesday; and 10-9 on Thursday-Saturday. Adoptions end one half hour prior to closing each day.

Sammy’s adoption fee includes neuter, microchip ID, collar and OHS ID tag, initial vaccines, courtesy veterinarian exam, and plenty of post adoption support. Availability is subject to prior adoption.
