Pookie: Oregon Humane Society's Dog of the Day

Pookie: Oregon Humane Society's Dog of the Day

Pookie is a small-medium sized fellow weighing only 25 lbs so a great size for the house. He's quite shy at first and has found it difficult to adjust to shelter life. He'll need to be the only dog in an adult or older dog savvy children home. Best to get all the love and attention as he adjust to his new home!

The Oregon Humane Society’s Dog of the Day is Pookie. He is a great little fellow who is a Basenji mix that is a bit shy, a little bit silly and a whole lot of cute.  Pookie is all that and then some! This little guy is friendly and affectionate, once he gets to know you - so patience and understanding is a must! Pookie will need plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings and people. The only thing Pookie likes more than running and playing is cuddling on the couch or bed. He will need to go to a home with adults only or with older, mature, dog savvy children who can respect his boundaries and be patient with him while he settles in. He can also be a little picky with other dogs, especially those that are larger than him. Along with proper exercise, Pookie could benefit from continued training and socialization. His eight year old fellow has found shelter life difficult to adjust to and is looking forward to spending the rest of his life being loved and treated with the respect he deserves. You can be the one to offer him his forever home! Come in to meet Pookie today at the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland 503-285-7722. Viewing hours are 10-7 Sun-Wed and 10-9 Thurs-Sat. Adoption hours are 10-6:30 Sun-Wed and 10-8:30 Thurs-Sat.

His adoption fee includes neuter, microchip ID, collar and OHS ID tag, initial vaccines, courtesy veterinarian exam, and plenty of post adoption support! Availability is subject to prior adoption.

Dogs are also available at the Oregon Humane Society’s Westside Adoption Center located inside of Lexi Dog Boutique and Social Club, 6100 SW Macadam Ave., Portland. If you want know if your potential new best friend gets along with other dogs, this is the place to visit. OHS dogs spend their days in a large group area alongside other dogs in a doggie day care facility.  Kittens are also available for adoption here and they all live in "colony rooms" with their fellow felines. Visiting and adoption hours for both dogs and kittens are 10-6 Monday-Friday; and 10-4 Saturday-Sunday at the Westside Adoption Center.
