The Oregon Humane Society's Dog of the Day is Mellie. She is a year and half old chocolate Labrador mix that loves to be active. She has energy to keep going through a nice run, a hike, and lots of daily walks. Mellie can sometimes get over excited so she is looking for someone who will help her learn more of her manners so she will meet people in an appropriate manner. She can be a handful for young children and their excitement gets her excited so it would be best in an adult home or if she is with mature dog savvy children. Mellie is also sensitive to loud noises and fast movements so a quiet low traffic home would be the best fit for her. She has a very sweet side to her and has a lot to offer the right person. Mellie is ready to find her forever home. You can meet her at the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland 503-285-7722. Viewing hours are 10-7 Sun-Wed and 10-9 Thurs-Sat. Adoption hours are 10-6:30 Sun-Wed and 10-8:30 Thurs-Sat.

Mellie's adoption fee includes spay, microchip ID, collar and OHS ID tag, initial vaccines, courtesy veterinarian exam, and plenty of post adoption support! Availability is subject to prior adoption.

Dogs are also available at the Oregon Humane Society's Westside Adoption Center located inside at Lexi Dog Boutique and Social Club, 6100 SW Macadam Ave., Portland. If you want know if your potential new best friend gets along with other dogs, this is the place to visit. OHS dogs spend their days in a large group area alongside other dogs in a doggie day care facility. Kittens are also available for adoption here and they all live in "colony rooms" with their fellow felines. Visiting and adoption hours for both dogs and kittens are 10-6 Monday-Friday; and 10-4 Saturday-Sunday at the Westside Adoption Center.
