Madison (shelter #136909) is the Oregon Humane Society’s Dog of the Day. She is a seven year old Australian Cattledog/Australian Shepherd mix who has only had one home. Madison is very protective of the adults in her family, is house training and the only furniture she will get on is the bed at night, which has been permitted! Her past owners have used carrots and broccoli stems training purposes and she knows sit, stay, down, heel, shake, rollover and “go potty”. Madison will come when called and takes her treats gently. She gets excited about going on car rides. She has not been able to adjust to not being the “only child” in the family and is not for the first-time dog owner. Madison tends to be a one-person dog and may feel the need to be protective of her person and territory. Since she lived in her previous home her whole life and she will need some time to adjust to a new home and person. Madison will need an adult-only home as she does not like the fast, unpredictable movements of children. And her home will also need to be cat free. Madison is still learning to be confident and trusting of strangers entering her house, so that means she will need to find a low-traffic home, one where there's not a lot of people coming and going, and one that is willing to take things slowly when new people visit. A training consult is included prior to Madison’s adoption. You can meet with her at the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland 503-285-7722. Visiting hours are 10am - 7pm on Sunday to Wednesday; and 10am - 9pm on Thursday to Saturday. Adoptions end one half hour prior to closinge ach day.
