The Oregon Humane Society’s Dog of the Day is Dakota. She is an adorable older Shepherd looking for a special home to spend her golden years in. She doesn’t think and always act very old, but her eyes are a bit cloudy. Dakota loves to follow her nose and sniff lots of things. So her walks may be a little long so she can check everything out. Due to her age she may do best in a home without small children. She loves attention, being brushed and petted are some of her favorite activities. Dakota’s new home will also need to understand that with her refined age comes a sense of independence and she doesn’t always need to be the center of attention. Even though she has been exposed to other dogs she prefers to be the only dog in my new home. Come visit Dakota at the Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland 503-285-7722. Viewing hours are 10-7 Sun-Wed and 10-9 Thurs-Sat. Adoption hours are 10-6:30 Sun-Wed and 10-8:30 Thurs-Sat.
Her adoption fee includes neuter, microchip ID, collar and OHS ID tag, initial vaccines, courtesy veterinarian exam, and plenty of post adoption support! Availability is subject to prior adoption.
Dogs are also available at the Oregon Humane Society’s Westside Adoption Center located inside at Lexi Dog Boutique and Social Club, 6100 SW Macadam Ave., Portland. If you want know if your potential new best friend gets along with other dogs, this is the place to visit. OHS dogs spend their days in a large group area alongside other dogs in a doggie day care facility. Kittens are also available for adoption here and they all live in "colony rooms" with their fellow felines. Visiting and adoption hours for both dogs and kittens are 10-6 Monday-Friday; and 10-4 Saturday-Sunday at the Westside Adoption Center.
