Saturday is Record Store Day and stores around Portland are throwing parties all over town.

This event seems to have blown up, especially here in Portland.

At Music Millennium, Black Prairie will be playing at 6 PM. Downtown, Jackpot! will host Ylang Ylang - the newest brainchild of Panther's Charlie-Salas Humara at 5 PM

And at Everday Music - Zia McCabe (Dandy Warhols) Steve Turner of Mudhoney Allan Wilson (Chk Chk Chk) Steve Turner (Mudhoney) Ah Holly Family DJ Flight Risk will all be spinning.

SPIN this week also named MM one of the top 15 record stores in the nation.

"A 1969 opening date makes Music Millennium the oldest record store in the Pacific Northwest, and they've proven their wisdom over the years with an inventory (now including sizable selections of DVDs and other non-music ephemera) that has grown almost as fast as their importance as a community staple."

Tons and tons of reissues and special releases are coming out to celebrate vinyl too. My faves:

Legacy/Sun Elvis Presley's (first) single - Thats alright Mama/Blue moon

Hot Water Music - 4 songs 2008 live

REM - blue vinyl Chronic Town EP

Tom Waits Mule Variation on a Jim Jarmusch pic disc

The Velvet Underground 1969 live

And of course, the winners for the most - Sonic Youth.
