If there's one thing Portlanders love to talk about -- it's Portland. But can they laugh at themselves?
That's the real question as Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisten's "Portlandia" (FULL 1st episode is now posted) debuts next week on the Independent Film Channel. The creators said their aim is to have fun with a city they love.
That includes a lot of characters who didn't have to benefit from any heavy doses of artistic license. "Absurd and dreamy" they call it.
The pickings are ripe and seemingly endless for a town that has prided itself on declaring "weird" to be the new normal.
You'd think some of the clips are documentaries of Portland neighborhoods and scenes -- until their passive-aggressive hijinks explode. Think Three Stooges with beards, beer and bikes.
From some of the recent comments in the Merc (Some NSFW) it looks like the hipster hurt hits a little too close to home! Can comedy and Portland peacefully coexist?
Some new clips are out on the IFC site: Watch here
Stay tuned for pics and stories from Friday night's premier at the Hollywood Theater - (CORRECTION) a second was added later in the night week after a quick sellout - it also sold out. A screening party will be held January 21 at the Mission Theater and Pub in NW.
