Vancouver 2010 The plan begins

KGW Olympics Coverage

Yesterday, we had the first of several big Olympics planning pow-wows.

My boss gave us a rundown of what newscasts he hopes we'll turn content for, and roughly how he hopes things will go over there.  I'll be there. Matt Zaffino will be there. And Kyle Iboshi, too.  Of course, as my boss joked, every plan gets thrown out the window once the games begin-- but it's good to have some of the groundwork laid before you get there.

It's too soon to spill the beans on the specifics of the plan and which newscasts I'm working, only because these things are very subject to change.  This meeting was really just to cover the basics, flag any potential problems (for example-- how best to schedule sharing the line that sends our video back home-- that sort of thing), and get an overview.

But I have a major bonus... one that I'm really excited about.

I've got a good handle on getting my husband and baby up to Vancouver for a visit.  Sweet!  Hotels are VERY expensive, but not all booked (I'm still working to find a better solution).  But, flights are surprisingly still affordable.  And, I found a company that rents baby gear by the day (car seats, Pack N Play, etc.).  That's a HUGE one.  So, while I won't get a lot of time to spend with them since I'll need to work during the day-- I'm really looking forward to having a few days of breakfast and dinner with my family and some good baby-snuggles to tie me over while I'm there.

Now I just have to convince my husband he really does want to take a flight with an infant.
