It's time to start Olymp-i-bloggin'!! I haven't been on my usual health beat because I'm in a scramble to get my show on the road. I'm making calls, shooting stories, setting some really cool stuff up to cover in Beijing.
I have to be honest, this time around I'm a little anxious.. we're not sending a producer to Beijing-- which was the case at the previous three Olympics. So, I think I'm overly-paranoid about what my expectations are (and everyone else's). That said, I'm really excited and love some of the stories I've already set up to shoot once I get there.
A lot of you who have heard me talk about the Olympics have asked what event I'll cover. It's funny-- because I basically never get to see any actual events. I didn't see a single one in Italy. I saw one in Athens (women's fencing-- which turned out to be THE event to see with Mariel winning the gold!) and none in Salt Lake.
My focus is trying to connect with local athletes and thier famiies, local businesses, local local local. And cool slice-of-life stuff, too.
Last time in Italy I did 120 live shots for the news, 80 radio interviews and worked 142 hours of overtime over 4 weeks. Let's see if I can outdo that this time around.
Okay, let's not.
I should be live for you in plenty of newscasts and will hopefully keep things fresh over there!! And (since you are online reading this) I also hope to boost my web stuff with photo slideshows and mini-movies, blog updates, and online stories.
Here's a handy guide I call: How Not To Get Detained In China.. although, I'm bummed I won't be able to go streaking during soccer:
