I took an extended 3-day weekend in honor of MLK DAY, and planned on returning to my normal duties today. (For the record, we had planned to tape a segment with the Portland LumberJax this morning that would have posted in the "Out & About with Drew Carney" section of KGW.com today)
However, there is nothing normal about this city when the S-word is thrown into the mix.
SNOW... it actually came to Portland today... not Mt. Hood, or the coast, or the outlying suburbs... but the actual city itself. Needless to say, nobody appeared to be ready for it.
Even being born and raised in Philadelphia, where I remember more than one snowfall of more than 30 inches, I'd have to say that today's storm was the real deal... icy surfaces layered with hard, wet snow... a recipe for disaster.
Hopefully, people will remain cautious throughout the night and again tomorrow morning when conditions could be even worse.
I'm going to drive home now myself, despite my wife's wishes that I get a hotel room here in the city near the TV station.
I'll be the guy driving slowly on Highway 26... please don't hit me. My dog (shown here) would be upset.
