The Blazers officially announced today that forwards LaMarcus Aldridge and Channing Frye will participate on a "select" team that will practice and scrimmage against Team USA. Basically, it's like an NFL's scout team....or your typical high school JV squad.
But, don't be fooled. This is not only great experience for the two....but it's also great exposure. Aldridge and Frye are (right now) second tier Western Conference forwards. Second tier to guys like Duncan, Nowitzki, Gasol, etc. But, we are banking on that changing though :)
Here's reaction from Blazer GM Kevin Pritchard:
“This is a tremendous opportunity for LaMarcus and Channing to gain some additional experience as we get closer to training camp,” said Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. “Additionally, it gives them a chance to showcase their talents for future consideration as members of Team USA while helping our country gain a spot in next year’s Olympics.”
This can only help boost their confidence as the Blazers get ready for the long haul that is the 2007-08 NBA season. And love the fact that management is giving them the opportunity....no stay safe out there guys! We're counting on you!
The FIBA Americas Basketball Championships get underway on August, 22.
