Bobby McFerrin should probably sing the national anthem as the Blazers tip-off their preseason on Wednesday night. I like the idea, you? In the past few days...I've had a handful of people approach me about the outlook of the upcoming season. They are concerned, but mostly discouraged. They think that the injury bug is something that the Blazers (as a team) just can't seem to shake. Again, don't worry...be happy.
My guess is the young, athletic Blazers will probably finish with fewer wins than a season ago (32). I think they'll have 30-31. Zach Randolph--now with the Knicks--was probably good for 4-5 wins himself. I just think the grind of an entire 82 game schedule will catch up to guys that aren't used to it. I hope I'm completely wrong and the Blazers go on to shock the NBA world. But, I'm a realist. Greg Oden, by himself, was probably good for 7-8 wins. The interior defense would be one of the best in the league when you coupled him with Frye, Aldridge, and Przybilla. Brandon Roy aside, I just don't know where alot of the scoring is gonna come from. But you should be thankful that this is a team that has a lot of good guys! They are all very approachable and genuine--and they won't be causing a rucous off the court. They will give incredible effort, night in and night out. Be thankful for that. So, remember....don't worry, be happy---things are on the upswing in Blazerland.
