I can't help but remember some pretty vivid memories of the Blazer teams in the late 80's and early 90's. It was when I became a pretty devoted fan of them. I remember shooting baskets by myself on the driveway of our house on the Oregon coast... listening to the "golden pipes" of The Schonz...and trying to emulate each of the players on that roster (Jerry Sichting included). Wonder why that name just popped into my head?!?! Anyways, I digress. Terry Porter wasn't my favorite...but he was a close second. Clyde Drexler was my favorite... as evidence by me wearing #22 throughout my HS career. Porter was the natural born leader on those Blazer teams... and I couldn't help but have a little flashback as we talked to him before they raised his #30 jersey to the rafters on Tuesday night. All the images started to come back... from the driveway, to the NBA Finals appearances, to his (fairly) recent attempt at assembling an ownership group to purchase the team from Paul Allen. In fact, I'm kinda hoping someday that Porter runs for Mayor of Portland. I don't think it's far from the realm of possibility.... I just think he's that popular. Heck, even former Phoenix Sun Kevin Johnson--- who Porter had many battles against--- just won the Mayor's seat in Sacramento. Anythings possible, isn't it?
