It was another great game I will never forget. I've seen a bunch over the years...and this one ranks right up there. Brandon Roy with 52 points to lead the Blazers past Phoenix at the Rose Garden.
I almost didn't go. I was off work and planned to watch it on TV. However, I wound up going with my son and his friends and a friend of mine. I sat in the 300 level and had a blast. It's somewhat ironic...because I was talking to a fan early in the game about Brandon Roy. I said he could wind up as the greatest Blazer of them all....and the fan said he thinks he is almost there already. Then Roy scores 52 points and the Blazers get the big win.
During practice today Roy talked again about his special night.
"It was a great feeling. I never thought I would score 50 points," said Roy. I think everybody dreams of it. You know, to win the game against a team we haven't beat, it's special. It' really is."
Then Brandon was asked what he plans to do with the game ball.
"My mom and dad called and they asked for it," Brandon said. He said they couldn't make it down because of the snow. "They want it so I'll probably frame it up and give it to them."
What a proud moment, for Brandon's parents and Blazers fans. Roy is a special player...and a special kind of person.
