What a great game at the Rose Garden! Another fantastic finish and another Blazer victory.
So many times this season Blazer games have gone down to the wire. Most of them have gone their way with the exception of the Magic and Clipper games, but add this to the terrific side of the board.
Late in the game, when the Blazers were down one and the crowd was cheering during the timeout, I scanned the crowd and had thoughts of growing up wanting to be a sportscaster.
I had to smile and the smile got bigger when Travis Outlaw hit the game winning shot and then Steve Blake and the Blazers shut down Allen Iverson on the last play to win by one 84-83.
Blazers Guard Jerryd Bayless was wearing a big smile as well. The Blazers Rookie was living a dream providing some big plays and minutes in a big victory for the home team. Bayless was 8 years old when Iverson broke into the league...and now here he was taking the ball away from Iverson and then coming up with a big dunk to help spark the Blazers comeback in the third Qtr. Bayless had 8 points, 2 assists and 2 steals in 17minutes.
"I'm stealing the ball from A.I, It's like, I'm trying not to smile. That's A.I. right here," Bayless told me laughing, "but, you know, it's great just playing against these guys and finally just get into a rhythm and just play. It's an incredible feeling."
It was also a much needed win. The Blazers are now 2-2 without injured All-Star Brandon Roy and Golden State is up next. The games have been exciting all season and I say keep them coming!
