It was what we all thought we'd be getting when the Blazers selected Greg Oden with the #1 overall pick back in June of '07. Seems like ages ago doesn't it? Well, if Monday night was any indication, we are begining to see Oden blossom.
You have to wonder if the Oregonian's "Mid-season Report" which said that Oden was the franchise's biggest disappointment in the first half rubbed him the wrong way. As I said on the late news Monday, if that's what it takes... please write more "irratable" stuff about him. It lit a fire under him against the Bucks (who were minus Andrew Bogut).
Now, while it's hard not to get a little excited about his 24 point / 15 rebound night on Monday, we still need to have a little more patience. And that's the toughest thing for fans. Oden was brought here to be a "savior" of sorts... to revamp this franchise into a title contender out West for years to come. Oden's biggest barrier remains himself. No doubt, he's got the talent, and it does appear through 41 games, that his microfracture surgery has held up quite well. But Oden needs to relax a little more between the ears. He puts more pressure on himself than every Blazer fan combined.... and that is probably holding him back a little. Also, his conditioning is nearing a point that is definitely acceptable. Here's looking for bigger and brighter things out of our big fella. He does turn 21 this Thursday... let's consider this an early birthday gift from Greg to us!
