The Blazers game at Oklahoma City was the first meeting between Blazers Center Greg Oden and Thunder Forward Kevin Durant. They were the 1st and 2nd players taken in the 2007 NBA Draft. So much hype and now they were playing against each other for the first time.
The two players didn't really go head to head because they play different positions...but Durant definately had a much better game...and in the end, more importantly his team won 102-93.
Durant had 22 points in the first half and 31 in the game. Oden had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Greg had foul trouble again. It's unfair to Oden to compare the stats for both players. Durant has one year under his belt. He played 80 games last season and has played 86 NBA games more than Oden. Greg is also recovering from knee surgery.
Durant is averaging 25 points per game and Oden 9 points and 7 rebounds. However, the Blazers have won 18 more games than the Thunder and Oden can smile about that.
The Blazers hope to make the playoffs. It's not about letting Oden playing 40 minutes a game like Durant does. It's about quality minutes and getting the "W" and improving each night. Greg is averaging about 23 minutes per game.
In college Durant averaged close to 26 pts per game at Texas. Oden averaged 15 pts and 10 rebounds at Ohio St. Last month Oden averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds per game one week. He needs time to develop consistency.
Durant and Oklahoma City are coming to the Rose Garden next Wednesday...my guess is that the real Thunder will come from some Oden Dunks!
