It's the age old question this time of year... should the Blazers make a move before the NBA's trade deadline (Feb.19). To be honest, I lean a little each way. Do I think they could upgrade their roster with one brisk move? The answser is an unequivocal YES!! But, there's something about this current roster that I believe can develop further. However, it simply can't come at the expense of missing the playoffs. They have to gain that valuable experience. And, who knows, maybe pull off a suprise first round series win?!?!? Right now, if you are a Blazers fan, expect the unexpected before the deadline!
If I HAD to part with somebody, I'd part with this quartet of players:
Raef LaFrentz -- every team in the league wants his 12.7 million dollar cap space
Channing Frye -- as the nicest guy on the team, he's fallen out of favor in Nate's system
Nicolas Batum -- a nice, young talent who is coveted by alot of teams in the Eastern Conf.
Sergio Rodriguez -- his stock will never be higher, if you want to get a solid veteran, Sergio has to be the odd man out in the back court.
Who should the Blazers go after? Here's my wishlist:
Richard Jefferson -- an active player on both ends of the floor, who fills that immediate need at the 3. B-Roy can't be Portland's only scoring option late in games (neither can Outlaw).
Vince Carter -- an intriguing thought here, and he's got a couple decent years left.
Andre Miller -- this is probably a reach, but obtaining Miller would potentially solve the need for a much needed veteran presence.
We shall see what actually happens in 9 short days!!!
