I'm a Blazers fan...have been since the days of Carr, Cooper, Valentine and Paxson. I've always rooted against the Sonics (er, Thunder) when they were in Seattle. It's in the blood of nearly every Blazers fan. But tonight I found myself feeling a little sorry for them. I kept thinking what a punk move it was by Stern and Bennett to move 'em to OKC. A couple hundred (that were visual to me) fans from Seattle arrived at the Rose Garden on Wednesday night to scope out the remains of their former team. Many placards around the arena were in strong disapproval for Bennett. Who knows, maybe Seattle will get an expansion team someday!
I caught up with Kevin Durant and Nick Collison before the game to talk about this very topic. I asked them if they miss Seattle, their fans, and what the transition has been like. They both had very good answers that should come across as heartfelt to Sonic fans. They genuinely miss Seattle... but they can't live in the past, they have moved on. Although Collison says he intends to live in Seattle for years to come.
After 41 years in Seattle-- many of which were not successful-- the Sonics at least deserve another shot by the NBA.
