I can't remember a former Blazer getting booed as bad as Darius Miles during Wednesday night's game at the Rose Garden. Blazers fans let D-Miles hear it the whole night.
"You could feel the tension when he came into the game," said Blazers Forward Travis Outlaw. "He came into the game I was like, he's definately going to get booed tonight,' laughing about it. Miles took it all in stride.
"I got booed when I had a Portland jersey on," said Miles after the game. "That ain't the first time I heard it."
It was Miles first game back in Portland since he was waived last year with a knee injury. Doctors said Miles injury was career ending. That said, the Blazers weren't responsible for the final 18 million dollars of his contract. Unless, Miles played ten games this season. He made his comeback and the 18 million dollars went back on the Blazers books when he played his 10th game this season.
"It really wasn't nothin to prove," said Miles. "Just tryin to play basketball and just glad to be on a team."
Miles played almost 17 minutes and had 6 points, 5 rebounds, four blocked shots and three turnovers as the Blazers beat Memphis 94-90.
After the game, Miles told me his teammates had been ribbing him about returning to Portland since they got off the plane. The Blazers teased him a bit too during the game.
"Yeah, I was laughing at him," said Outlaw chuckling, "I said, they don't like you here Darius." Travis told me Darius said, "I know," and Outlaw laughed again.
Miles says the boos didn't bother him at all.
"No, not one bit," said Darius.
