Or, was it the other way around? My thinking is that the Blazers ponied up an offer that the 36-year-old could not refuse! Regardless, Howard is now an official Portland Trail Blazer. This marks Howard's 7th NBA team....but this is about much more than his future contributions 'on' the floor.

Make no mistake about it... Kevin Pritchard brought the 15-year veteran in for the influence that he'll have on the Blazers youngsters. Howard will be a mentor to guys like Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge. And it will only trickle down from there.

Howard met with a handful of Portland media types on Thursday night to discuss a variety of topics. But one thing was clear...Howard still wants to play. And come September 28th, it should be one of the more interesting training camps in recent memory. My thoughts heading in:

Where does Jerryd Bayless now fit in? He's back to where he was a year ago!

And what does the Howard signing mean for Travis Outlaw? T.O. is not a power forward in the NBA. His game is suited for the perimeter. I believe this would be a mistake to have Outlaw just "assume" this role.

Can't wait to see Howard's impact on the team. Should be another great year for Portland!
