A Belated Happy New Year to you all.
I started out the new year "Singin' in the Rain, " It was a wonderful way to begin 2006.
Two weeks later,it's still raining, and I am trying to keep singing.
I spent New Year's Eve, at the Keller auditorium taking in the Broadway in Portland Production of "Mamma Mia".
I'd actually seen it a few days earlier, on opening night, with one of my daughters. We enjoyed it so much, I decided to take my whole family; husband, four kids and mother to the New Year's Eve performance. The only seats left were limited view, but it was still a wonderfully uplifting experience.
For those unfamiliar with the show, it features 22 hits from the 1970s and 80s Swedish super group "ABBA". The music and performance were so good, after the show we bought the "Mamma Mia" CD. We headed out into the driving rain to our car,and played the CD all the way home, singing "Chiquitita" and "Dancing Queen" at the top of our lungs. That's how we met the New Year.
I'm looking forward to future shows this year at the Keller... "Cats","Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Peter Pan", and "HairSpray". I'm afraid with all this rain, I'll need the extra dose of music to keep singing.
I feel grateful to have such wonderful theater available here in Portland. Broadway shows at a fraction of the price are a real gift.
And one more thought on the rain, to string some ABBA song titles together... "Gimme, Gimme,Gimme" a little bit of sun. We're "Under Attack".
We're sending out an "S.O.S". All this rain has us singing, "Mamma Mia"!
