Too Pretty?

Pretty, pretty, pretty... Yes it was!

From Timberline this Sunday, I could see Mount Jefferson and brilliant lakes in the distance.

The bluebird skies were brilliant.

I marveled when my daughter called my cell from London where she's studying for the semester.

I told her you won't believe where I am right now. She was near Hyde Park and I was near the top of Mount Hood. "It's a spectacular day", I told her.

It's almost too pretty, because we need snow up here.

My youngest daughter, Ali, was with her ski team practicing for the upcoming ski season up on the Palmer snowfield. It's the one place in the U.S. that offers year round skiing.

We walked to the chairlift across bare ground.

Brown earth and blue skies. They had fun skiing, and it was great there was snow to ski on, but the conditions weren't great, so the coach canceled next weekend's ski trip to the mountain.
Canceled until we get more snow.

It's too pretty.

I love sunshine and this November bonus of clear skies makes me smile.

But that trip to the mountain reminded me how good it can be when a storm moves in.

Last year was a banner year with record snowfall on Mount Hood. KGW Chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino often called it "epic" last year.

Here's hoping for another epic year.

So, when the rain starts and the snow begins to fall up in the mountains, I will try to remember that cloudy skies down below can mean beautiful snow conditions up above...

And that's pretty... pretty great!
