I'm back on the weekend anchor desk
after having Baby Reese on Election day.
I snapped this
photograph to share a little of the
joy Reese brings every day. She melts my heart!
Luckily, I'm only leaving her Saturdays
and Sundays for now - you don't get back these early days with Baby. And luckily, I'm only working
part-time for now - the sleep deprivation that comes with a
newborn is off the hook!
All you Moms out there, who, with a wink and a nod,
warned I wouldn't rest again until Reese graduated from High School
- you weren't kidding. However, no one spelled out I'd be getting
by on just a few hours of sleep. Or how challenging that would be. I'm now
writing and anchoring the news with a heck of a lot of caffeine and Visine.
So - from this first-time Mom and life-long
career gal -- here's a 'heads up' to all the Moms-to-be out there
(including some in our KGW
newsroom). You're going to face a severe lack of
sleep. For months on end. And it's a
killer.
Sometimes you'll only
get one hour of rest - ONE HOUR - in between feeding your baby and
all the other tasks that come with her... a dozen or more diaper
changes
a day, mountains of laundry, etc.
Sometimes you'll be up all
night with a sick baby, you'll be completely exhausted, yet you'll
still have
to roll into work and be flawless on the job (and look flawless too.)
And somehow you will rise to the
occasion. It will be hard - but you will rise to the occasion.
It's been a life-changing three months, to say the
least. And just the beginning of a wonderful
journey. My husband and I are savoring every day with our daughter.
Hats off to all you working parents out there!
Sleep deprivation is a killer
