Enterprise Rent-A-Car has doubled the number of gas-electric hybrid cars in its fleet and added two hybrid branch locations in the Portland metro area.
The rental car company said it had designated two branches -- one at Portland International Airport and one at 1623 W. Burnside St. -- as hybrid branches, with a high concentration of new gas-electric vehicles available for rent online or by phone.
Enterprise said it recently added nearly 5,000 hybrids to the national fleet, doubling the number it previously owned.
“The ability to choose an environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient vehicle is important to many of our customers here in Portland,” said Sabrina Rokovitz, vice president and general manager for Enterprise in Portland.

Rokovitz added that Portland had a high demand for fuel-efficient vehicles, which led the company to increase hybrid availability in this market.
Enterprise will offer three hybrids, the Toyota Prius, Nissan Altima and Ford Escape, with local rates starting at $45 per day.
The company plans to open some 80 other neighborhood and airport hybrid branch locations across the U.S. in coming weeks.
