The Oregon blueberry harvest may be over, but the fruit's popularity continues to grow.

Oregon blueberry sales have been exploding in recent years. And berry experts say the blueberry is expected to hit a record for production, harvest and pricing in 2007.

Oregon State University Extension berry crops specialist is Bernadine Strik. She says it's a phenomenal growth.

The blueberry craze began a few years ago because of various diets and researchers who praised the sweet little berry.

Research by the U.S. Department of Agriculture says blueberries have antioxidants that can help the body in various functions, are rich in fiber and vitamin C and low in calories.

Experts say these qualities, along with their flavor, long shelf life and easy processing have all contributed to the blueberry's popularity.
